This sculpture utilizes native grasses dipped in slip and assembled into a defensive barrier around the central obelisk form to convey the defensiveness and fear that surrounds the perceived loss of Southern culture/white power.

The chevaux de frise (or Frisian horses) is an anti-cavalry fortification used in warfare since medieval times. It was often used by the Southern Confederate forces against the Union army.
