In Spanish the idiom “hablando flores”/ “speaking flowers of” is commonly used to refer to a situation in which a person is flattering someone else. I illustrate this phrase with a mouth gag ornamented with flowers as an analogy of how not expressing our true feelings for the sake of maintaining the status quo in a relationship can be a masochistic task. For this piece I have built two mouth gags custom-fit for me and my partner to hypothesize a metaphoric alternative to our arguments in which instead of doing so, we would keep our mouths shut and say nice things to each other. Therefore, the artwork becomes a piece of jewelry that actively interacts with its user, making him or her feel physically uncomfortable, just like when we do not express our true feelings.
